The top questions about DAF donors and stewardship
Last week, Daffodil shared practical how-tos on DAF fundraising and donor stewardship with more than 230 nonprofit leaders from across the country. If you missed the Nonprofit Fundraising Summit, here were the top questions and our answers:
Why do donors want to use DAFs? How’d they get so popular?
We talked about the ease of organizing charitable giving, the tax benefits of funding a DAF, and the overall ease of opening a donor-advised fund: ten years ago, many DAFs had a minimum contribution of $10,000 or more. Today, you can open a no-fee DAF from your phone. (Including with Daffodil!)
As a nonprofit, this means more of your donors may be using DAFs quietly in the background. When you see a DAF gift, it’s often a sign that the donor plans to give over time, not just once.
How do I steward DAF donors?
If you receive a gift via a DAF, that’s a signal that the donor is thinking strategically about giving. If you have a major giving program, DAF donors are great candidates for your attention. Remember, these donors have put thought into their future giving plans, so they are more likely to respond to a focus on impact and the future. Learn more about how major donors think about strategic giving.
What’s one tip to better attract DAF support?
After joining Daffodil, one of the simplest steps is to make your EIN easy to find. Many DAF sponsors ask donors to search for organizations by EIN, so including it clearly on your website, donation page, and materials helps supporters find you—especially if you have a common name or share a name with a national organization..
Of course, donors who give through Daffodil can find you through your impact, mission, EIN, or name ,and they receive direct updates about your work through our zero-burden impact reporting.
